God's Faithfulness

Disciplines is the name of a yearly devotional guide through Upper Room Books. I have spent a lot of time with these through the years. I have saved most of them from the mid-1990's through the present in order to revisit them on occasion. From the 2017 edition (March 13) there is a devotion from Exodus 17. The setting is of course Moses, the reluctant leader who is exasperated, and the mass of people who are not sure about God's care of them. The writer sums up what I believe is a very real struggle for most of us:

If we honestly reflect on our own situations, we realize that much of our frustration with the Israelites stems from our own private, possibly sheepish, admissions about our own questions and demands of God. We, like the Israelites, have repeatedly experienced God's undeserved blessings throughout our lives. I acknowledge many such blessings that have emerged in my life; timing of challenges and resolutions synced; a way opened in the midst of circumstances that at the time appeared to have no resolution.

The bottom line shared is that the overwhelming evidence is clear! Though we have an "amnesia of grace" we have seen God's faithful, loving, and powerful work in our lives infinitely greater than we ever deserve. May this season of Lent be a time to re-channel our thoughts and be delivered by the One who is stronger than our anxieties!

Blessings, Richie <><
