Pastor's Notes

Holston Annual Conference

June 6, 2017

Each year the Holston Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church meets for spiritual renewal and business and ministry decisions; also, appointment of pastors and ordination of clergy take place. It is a time in which we remind ourselves of our purpose: "To Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world…"

Each year, clergy and lay representatives meet at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. As we meet to worship and in session, it is an opportunity for God's grace to touch each of us. I encourage each of you to feel welcome to "join in". Links should be available through the Conference website, There are also links to the Book of Reports and also the Pre-Conference Briefing.

Of particular interest this year is the Holston Conference Strategy Team Report, which includes a recommendation on reducing the number of districts from 12 to 9. This is a well-studied report and will be discussed further at Annual Conference in small-group sessions prior to the formal vote.

As pastor, I expect to be re-appointed to Glen Alpine UMC. It is a joyful relief for pastors when the gavel goes down and the Bishop announces that the projected appointments are "fixed" for another year. What a historic time each year that I personally look forward to!

The theme of the conference is "Behold". "Behold, I make all things new" are words found in Revelation. I look forward to God's preferred future for all of us together this year!

Blessings, Richie
