Pastor's Notes

Be an Encourager

November 5, 2017

I feel certain that most of us have one of those "drawers". You know the one in which I speak, the drawer that holds the miscellaneous stuff that doesn't seem to fit another category. Out of "that" drawer, I pulled out a stamp. It was an old Disney Princess stamp. Unused. I suppose I wasn't sure who I wanted to send it to. I mean, not everyone would appreciate the Princess stamp on their mail. So here it is after all of this time.

The problem now is that upon examination it is a "39 cent" stamp. In order for the U. S. Mail to deliver with it, I would need something else…an additional "10 cent" stamp by current 2017 rate. And now, I don't have that. What to do?

In the world around us, we all fall short. However, the great love of God makes up for our own shortcomings. I am grateful for that Grace. As I continue to hold to Philip Yancey's words that we are called to be "grace dispensers" in the world, I believe we are summoned this season of Thanksgiving to help those who are at a 39 cent level and need just a little to get over the hump. Just as a hopeless, useless 39 cent stamp feels inadequate, our neighbor does too. Go be an encourager! I know you can! You are a "10" whether you realize it or not!

The Encouragers meet each Sunday at 10:45 a.m. I hope to see you there!

Blessings, Richie
