Pastor's Notes

A New Year

January 2, 2018

The beginning of a new year is an exciting time! Have you set personal goals? I understand that the two Resolutions most common are (1) be a better person and (2) lose weight. This should encourage churches everywhere! For these are a part of what we do! When the church spends its time bringing together the desires of hearts with the purposes of God, then miraculous things happen!

When people are setting resolutions they typically look at their vital signs. They look at their weight, their age, their friends and family, their relationships, their stewardship of time, their number of commitments, the number of books read, the number of people they mentor, their legacy, and a host of other items.

Glen Alpine United Methodist Church averaged 99 people in worship (11th highest in the former Kingsport District) this year. We averaged hosting 8 small groups each week. We averaged approximately 18 people in mission work each week. We averaged giving over $5100 per week as a congregation which ranks 5th in the former Kingsport District. As we grow spiritually, we are clearly becoming better people! So, I would encourage you to spend time in worship and small group study this year. And as we think about our community, I would hope we will further our commitment to offering more small groups that will help the Pre-Christian folk that live nearby.

One of the advantages of moving to a simpler church structure this year was to free up folk from committee meetings to ministry. Would you be willing to lead a small group in your home or at the church? What areas of faith development do you feel God is calling you to lead in this year?

Are there folk that you feel led to invite to worship on Sundays?

2018 is full of possibilities! "God is able to do far more than we can ask or imagine!"

Blessings, Richie
